It is a simple disk shaped collar that sits on the end of your screwdriver to illuminate your work area so you can see what you’re doing. Here is an interesting project that uses the Hall Effect to make a magnet hover in mid air. A microcontroller is used to make rapid adjustments in the strength of the electromagnet (the coil above) to center the permanent magnet and keep it still. Even with outside influences – in this case a poking finger (video below) – the permanent magnet quickly returns to to the center.

PC manufacturer Lenovo have today announced plans for an extra security measure to be introduced on certain models of their Thinkpad notebooks. The technology is rather basic but gives users peace of mind about their personal files and data, enabling users to disable their notebook via a mobile phone text message should it ever get snatched.

Their flying car is much more than just a concept or even a base prototype like the one we saw on ebay recently. Testing is already underway (video below) and FAA approved models are expected to be available to the public before 2015.

A video has surfaced of a new innovation in OLED technology which is thought to be from the recent Japanese Flat Panel Display (FPD) trade show. It shows a full-color OLED display by Samsung which is capable of being folded in two, much like a sheet of paper. The display joins Samsung’s .05mm thick OLED that was also present at the show – flapping in the wind.
