That ridiculous contraption is a mind-reading device, intended to allow Doc to read other people’s thoughts – and it doesn’t work. The Emotiv EPOC Neuroheadset, on the other hand, is a mind-reading device that is intended to read your own thoughts and transmit them. And it does work.

That’s right: put this on your head and the sensors will detect electrical signals from your brain, and (presumably) after calibration, pick up your inner thoughts and emotions and transmit them wirelessly to your PC. With the EPOC, you’ll be able to control your PC with your thoughts – and if your PC is connected to the internet – access everything in the world. Ergo, with the EPOC Neuroheadset, you’ll be able to rule the world with thought alone. Now there’s a sobering thought.

Alternatively, you could configure the supplied EmoKey software to write “LOL” whenever you smile. What’s more, you could LOL by thought alone for up to 12 continuous hours, such is the battery life in this truly futuristic device.

The Emotic EPOC Neuroheadset is limited to US customers with $299 to spare.

The Swiftpoint Mouse lets you avoid the finger-pointing frustration by giving you all the features you expect from a mouse, only in a more portable size. It’s so small it can even be used on your laptop’s palm rest and ‘parked’ out of the way when not in use.

The Swiftpoint comes equipped with a SlideScroll wheel, which can be used to scroll through a document, or to up the magnification when your eyes need a little help. It’s also loaded with 1000dpi micro optical technology for exceptional tracking accuracy, and the SmartTouch sensor makes sure the pointer doesn’t move if your finger’s not on the finger grip.

The Micro USB charging dock (which attaches conveniently to your laptop), delivers a full charge in 90 minutes, providing up to four weeks of use. If for some reason you don’t notice the battery status indicator telling you it’s time for a boost, a quick little thirty-second RapidCharge will power up the Swiftpoint for up to an hour.

Get the Swiftpoint mouse for $69 and try it risk-free for 30 days. Tell your touchy touchpad the relationship is over and it’ll never feel the caress of your fingers again.

The Loop Pointer is an ingenious device by Hillcrest Labs that enables you to easily control a home theatre PC system from your couch. Requiring no surface, the Loop Pointer works its magic in the air like a remote control – communicating with your PC via a wireless USB transceiver.

Based on patented Freespace technology, the Loop Pointer claims to provide intuitive and precise control of a TV connected to a Mac, PC or Linux box – whilst compensating for unwanted (and surely aggravating) movements such as hand tremors.

Featuring a simplified 4 button + scroll wheel interface and quick plug-and-play installation, the Loop Pointer is available now and can be purchased for $99.00 from Amazon.com.

While not typically known for their pointing peripherals, Verbatim recently released a line of small, portable notebook mice that should make your mobile computing more productive. Called the Color Nano Wireless Notebook Mouse, it features a tiny USB dongle / receiver that is designed to be left in your USB port without risk of snapping off, making setting up easier when working on-the-go.

Like the Lingo Wireless Mouse we’ve seen previously, Verbatim’s Color Nano Wireless Notebook Mouse also includes a small storage space in the mouse itself for the USB dongle (in case you run out of ports and can’t leave it plugged in). This optical Color Nano uses the 2.4GHz wireless spectrum for reliable and responsive performance, comes in your choice of 7 colors (hence the name) and plays equally well with both PC or Mac.

The dimensions of the mouse itself have been omitted, but the focus here is on the diminutive size of the transmitter and usability. It is certainly not a Z-Nano competitor.

Verbatim’s Color Nano Wireless Notebook Mouse is available now in pink, blue, red, green, purple, yellow or graphite – priced between $20 and $30 from Amazon.com.

WRITTEN BY Mark Jeldi ON May 6, 2009Lingo Wireless Mouse Could Be The Smallest Yet Following on from the tiny Z-Nano and the Ultra-Slim Optical Bluetooth Mouse, comes this little gem from Japan. Called the Lingo, it is claimed to be the world’s smallest wireless mouse and with dimensions of 27.5mm (1.08″) x 60mm (2.36″) […]

Following on from the tiny Z-Nano and the Ultra-Slim Optical Bluetooth Mouse, comes this little gem from Japan. Called the Lingo, it is claimed to be the world’s smallest wireless mouse and with dimensions of 27.5mm (1.08″) x 60mm (2.36″) x 19mm (0.75″), that’s not too difficult to believe.

The 800dpi Lingo Wireless Mouse gets a range of about 10m, around 15 hours of battery life and operates at a frequency of 2.4Ghz. The tiny USB 2.0 receiver appears to have a housing within the mouse too for when it’s not in use. A good idea, as it looks real easy to lose.

The Lingo is expected to go on sale in Japan next month for $50, but keep an eye on stores like Japan Trend Shop who may release it locally.

Evolution? Not quite. But certainly one of the most morbid hacks I’ve ever seen. Combining the body of a real mouse, with the functionality of the peripheral variety this Mouse Mouse sports a scroll wheel, USB connectivity and an optical sensor – though I was kind of expecting a double trackball.

Not a good gift idea for the squeamish, or cat owners – but if you’re inquistive, there’s a step-by-step breakdown of the whole project and video over at Instructables.
