Sanyo today unveiled an electric hybrid bicycle called the Eneloop Bike, which is based on their impressive Eneloop battery technology. The bike has a cruising range of 100km (62 miles) in auto mode which is similar to Panasonic’s regenerative electric bike and uses a unique two-wheel drive system for greater stability.
Kingston will unveil the world’s first electric superbike this week at the 2008 NEC Motorcycle Show in Birmingham, England. Their TTX01 motorcycle is capable of 125mph (200km/h) and can apparently recharge in as little as 15 minutes via a high-current charger.
Here is a brilliant invention that makes it easy for people in third world countries or disaster areas to transport, filter and store water from distant sources. Called the “Aquaduct“, it incorporates an ingenious pedal-powered filtration system that enables people everywhere to have access to clean drinking water.
Now this is a bike! The Ferrari V4 is a motorcycle concept developed by Israeli industrial designer Amir Glinik that borrows heavily from the sleek and contoured bodies of Ferrari supercars. The bike features drive-by-wire hand controls adapted from an F-16 jet fighter and a weatherproof touch-screen LCD on the fuel tank.
Small, foldable bikes are a great way to get around town without worrying about traffic, fuel costs or parking. The trouble is, they all look very similar. But now, thanks to a company called STRiDA, you can turn some heads as you cycle through the crowds. Their latest model, the MAS Special is their best and fastest version yet featuring their trademark A-Frame design combined with a fold-down time of just five seconds.
Each day in Tokyo, over 700,000 people ride their bikes to catch the morning train and this creates a problem. Where do you store all those bikes? Well, thanks to Japanese ingenuity and their skills in robotics, they’ve come up with a robot that quickly and efficiently parks them in underground storage facilities (see video below – in English).
A company called Ultra Motor have unveiled their A2B electric bike that is capable of traveling up to 20mph for 20 miles on a single charge. An extra battery can be purchased to extend the range to 40 miles and the speed can be increased by adding pedal power to the mix.
The A2B is ideal for city dwellers (like me, who wants one btw) and features full mountain bike suspension and an oversized seat for a little comfort on them mean streets. They say it is state-of-the-art, but I’d like to see a new silver-zinc battery powering this puppy before I’ll accept such a claim.
The motor is apparently a highly-efficient proprietary design, powered by lithium-ion batteries stored in the frame. The idea is that you get it home at the end of the day and plug it in as you would your laptop.
The bike will be available in the U.S. in September nationwide with saddlebags and baskets available separately (for all those gadgets you’ll be out buying). Pricing has not yet been announced.
Have you ever been torn between your love of both cars and bikes? You can’t beat the thrill of riding a motorbike, but when the weather is terrible, don’t you just long for the comfort of a car? Alvino Design has come up with a solution in the form of their Proxima car/bike hybrid concept.
The Proxima is a stunning vehicle that looks like a hotrod at the front and a motorcycle at the rear. The cabin has 2 tandem seats for a motorcycle-like seating arrangement but instead of being exposed to the elements, are tucked inside a fully-enclosed cabin. Apart from providing comfortable, all-weather riding, it should also improve aerodynamics considerably.
The wheel arrangement might be seen to offer less maneuverability than a traditional motorcycle, but at the same time could present a whole new level of excitement and capabilities.
If you’re into odd-shaped vehicles, this should definitely be up your alley. For those who are not, you’ve got to appreciate the elegant tapering that makes this car a work of art.
If you’re looking for the ultimate hardcore motorcycle, you can’t go past this road-ready model by a Mr Clemens F. Leonhardt. This rider-dwarfing monster is no concept, it is set for series production. If you’re game, go and show all those Harley riders who’s boss.
The Gunbus is powered by a 410-cubic-inch, air-cooled, pushrod V-Twin and is sure to scare just about everyone who sees you coming.
I’m not sure how easy it will be to make turns with this monster, it could prove quite difficult with so much weight and such a long wheelbase, but that’s not the point, right?
Despite its massive size, it is by no means the largest bike in the world. That title belongs to this bike and probably always will.
The Gunbus could take bike stunts to a new level – but I doubt we’ll see anything like the madness in the video below. Check it out – Death wish or what?
Designer Chang Ting Jen has come up with an ultra-convenient design for a bicycle which is so lightweight and versatile it can be folded down and carried around as a backpack. Weighing only 5.5kg and measuring 60cm in length when folded, it can be carried around with ease wherever you go.
Weight is kept to a minimum thanks to the use of strong but lightweight plastics to replace much of the traditionally metal frame.
The backpack bicycle comes fully equipped with headlight, brake light and turn signals to accommodate night riding and cycling amongst traffic.
The concept seems like a very modern means of transportation, not only requiring no fuel to run but helping us attain that coveted goal of complete mobility.
