Friday, 27 June 2008 DXG, one of the fastest growing U.S. digital camera manufacturers has launched its new compact DXG-567V HD camcorder that can directly upload your video creations to YouTube. Classed as a ‘Pocket Cam’, with dimensions similar to those of an average cell phone, these little beauties will capture HD video at up to 1280 x 720 resolution at 30 frames-per-second. They feature a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor and a limited 32MB of memory, but include an SD/SDHC slot for you to add more storage. It uses USB for data transfer and comes in obligatory black, plus bright red, pink and sky blue. The camcorder has taken a different approach to Pure Digital’s Flip Mino, using a pair of rechargeable AA’s for its power source. Both units cost the same with an MSRP of $179. Source: Thursday, 19 June 2008 Sony has announced its new HDR-CX12 – AVCHD powered camcorder which is the first to feature their new Smile Shutter technology and is priced at just $900. The camcorder features a 10 megapixel ClearVid 1/3.13-inch CMOS sensor which can capture AVCHD video at 1920 x 1080 resolution. It also comes with a 2.7-inch LCD, BIONZ image processing, a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T 12x optical zoom lens and a 5.1 surround sound mic. It relies upon Sony’s Memory Stick Pro Duo for storage and includes a 4GB stick to get you started. You can expect to get just under two hours of HD recording on a 16GB card. The new Smile Shutter technology enables you to simultaneously record video a capture smiling photos. The technology automatically takes a photo when your subject is smiling without having to switch modes. The camcorder will be available from tomorrow online, or August in stores.
Thursday, 5 June 2008 The new Sanyo Xacti HD1010 1080i Camcorder is a notable update to its previous HD1000 model featuring improved stabilisation and image processing. The camcorder has more computing power in its video processor than the former model capturing FullHD 1920×1080i at 14Mbps. The new Xacti features a video mode called Web SHR which enables 300 frames per second (fps) at 448×336 resolution. Another new feature is its “face chaser” technology for both still shots and video. The HD1010 has a still shot mode which can capture a continuous 7fps but with a maximum of 4 megapixel resolution. The camcorder has a focal length of 38 ~ 380 mm for stills and 49.7 ~ 497 mm for video with a 10x optical zoom lens (F1.8 ~ 2.5). For high-sensitivity shooting, the camcorder can provide up to ISO 3200. The battery can capture about two hours of video and the LCD display mounted above the pistol grip is 2.7 inches displaying around 23 million pixels. The camcorder has a built-in flash and microphone input. The dimensions are 112.6 × 90 × 54.5mm with a weight of about 311g including battery. It includes integrated software for video editing and DVD authoring as well as Nero 8 Essentials for Sanyo. The Sanyo Xacti HD1010 1080i Camcorder will be available in Japan on June 20 and the US in July with a price tag of 120,000 Yen / $799.99. With a size smaller than most cell phones, you can take it everywhere and be ready to capture videos of life’s random moments. It is made by Pure Digital, a company that has a number of camera devices and accessories under its belt including the Flip Original and Flip Ultra. The Mino measures just 4in x 2in x 0.6in – a 40% reduction over the Flip Ultra which was already very small. It weighs just over three ounces. The control pad features touch-sensitive buttons which are more stylish than its predecessor. They are very easy to use too – just turn it on, point, and press record to start shooting. It plugs into any computer’s USB port via a unique arm and includes built-in software for instant sharing and editing on PC or Mac. The device comes with 2GB of on-board flash memory which will capture up to 1 hour of VGA-quality video. After a recording, you can instantly play back video on the in-built 1.5-inch LCD display. The lithium-ion battery can be charged over USB and according to Pure Digital, can provide over four hours of recording on a single charge.
