UK Police Want “Crime Breathalyzers” For PCs

The UK’s Police Central E-crime Unit (PCeU) are looking to one day develop a breathalyzer-type device for on-the-spot detection of illegal activity such as credit card fraud, or the selling of stolen goods. The digital forensic tool would avoid the unnecessary seizure of all laptops and PCs during raids and reduce the six to twelve month backlog for forensics officers to uncover evidence.

Crime Fighting Vending Machine Unveiled, Vandalized.

A crime fighting vending machine has debuted in Japan, fully equipped with a siren, revolving red light, direct line to the police department and 24-hour CCTV operation. Called the “Help Vending Machine,” it was provided by Coca Cola to help the Aichi prefecture cut down on crime.

London Met Police Launch Google Maps Crime Mapping

London’s Metropolitan Police have launched a trial website service, thanks to Boris Johnson, that aims to highlight the city’s trouble areas. You can search by postcode to narrow down an area or view the map in its entirety to see how the different boroughs compare on crime.
