Not wanting to miss out on the HD arena, Flip Video have released an updated version of their Flip Mino we saw back in June. The new version, called the Flip MinoHD, looks identical to its predecessor but shoots video in 720p high-definition. Monday, 20 October 2008

DXG, one of the fastest growing U.S. digital camera manufacturers has launched its new compact DXG-567V HD camcorder that can directly upload your video creations to YouTube. Classed as a ‘Pocket Cam’, with dimensions similar to those of an average cell phone, these little beauties will capture HD video at up to 1280 x 720 resolution at 30 frames-per-second. They feature a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor and a limited 32MB of memory, but include an SD/SDHC slot for you to add more storage. It uses USB for data transfer and comes in obligatory black, plus bright red, pink and sky blue. The camcorder has taken a different approach to Pure Digital’s Flip Mino, using a pair of rechargeable AA’s for its power source. Both units cost the same with an MSRP of $179. The screen is a monster – 82 inches in size with a refresh rate of 120Hz and ultra definition (UD) resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. The UD set is double the resolution of full HD (1920 x 1080) in both width and height, effectively making it four times the size. The refresh rate of 120 Hz is at the cutting edge for LCD TVs, although, Samsung will be releasing new technology in 2011 called ‘Blue Phase TV’ that will double the refresh rate to 240Hz. According to Kim Sang-soo, executive vice president of Samsung’s LCD Technology Center, “This 82-inch LCD is large enough to cover all viewing angles with ultra-definition resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate that will allow viewers to watch motion pictures as if they are really in them.” “I personally hope the next-generation ultra-high definition level in the LCD panel market will open soon, with increasing consumer demand for clear viewing in households and public spaces,’’ said Sang-soo.
