JVC Dual Codec Chip Makes YouTube Transfers A Breeze

JVC-Victor has announced an MPEG-2 / H.264 MPEG-4 dual codec LSI chip that promises to cut out the painful process of encoding videos before they can be uploaded to YouTube.

The chip is called the HD Gigabrid JCY0237 and is destined for video cameras and video recording devices. The chip will simultaneously record video in the two different codecs MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.

MPEG-4 is supposedly the global multimedia standard and delivers professional-quality audio and video over vast ranges of bandwidth. To upload content to YouTube, it must be encoded in this format.

Apparently the chip looks set to appear in JVC’s Everio product line soon.
