After a successful 36km test flight over Switzerland, the Swiss daredevil Jet Man (aka FusionMan) is now ready for his next challenge – a crossing of the English Channel in his jet-powered wing.
Yves Rossy, the man behind the super-hero title is a former military pilot and hopes to be the first person to fly across the Channel strapped to a jet-powered fixed wing. Rossy will make the attempt on September 24, providing the conditions are suitable.
The crossing will be filmed by National Geographic Channel from his take-off near Calais in France to his English landing in Dover around 15 minutes later. He will trace the route of French aviator Louis Blériot who was first to make the crossing by plane 99 years ago.
Rossy’s wing is a one piece design with no flaps or slats to control direction or lift. He relies on head movements and the shifting of his weight alone to steer towards the desired direction (see him in action in the video below).
Good luck Jet Man! We’ll be watching.
