Eyeball Bling: Swarovski Studded Contacts. Ouch!

Swarovski crystals have been showing up everywhere lately, particularly in consumer gadgets such as high-end cell phones and televisions. Now, thanks to this strange design, not even your peepers are safe from Swarovski-adornment.

Indian designer Anthony Mallier has come up with ‘Sparkle’, a design that incorporates those aforementioned diamond-like crystals into contact lenses for yet another, albeit original, blinged-up fashion accessory.

The design was conceived for Swarovski’s recent design competition called Crystal Vision which attracted 4074 entrants from 92 countries. You can have a snoop at all of the entrants over at DesignBoom. Sparkle took second place.

It makes me wonder if this design could ever come to fruition. Is it possible, not only to cut a crystal into such a miniscule size, but to also embed it into a highly flexible lens about a millimeter thin. Am I over thinking this? Just a design you say? Okay then…innit purdy!

well, i think, its a fantastic idea and doesn’t seem far-fetched at all! New materials innovation is an area of research where unbelievable stuff is being generated… and anything that makes a great business idea will surely find its way through. And this seems to be of them!

Photographs being used here are in breach of copyright. The photographer who submitted them to the Swarovski contest is being sued as they DO NOT BELONG TO HIM.

I have been contacted by Leanne, the copyright holder of the original image. Apparently it was used and altered for the competition without her permission. I have removed the image in question as per her request.

The image is not for a photography competition, its for a product design competition for Swarovski!! Leanne should be grateful to the designer for making a image so popular because of the fabulous idea of the Swarovski lenses! There is no reason to sue the designer here!! The image is beautiful but its the idea that brought it to the limelight! I love the lenses!

Anthony, the concept’s designer has contacted me and asked for the remaining image to be removed while the legal battle continues. I have obliged. He has offered some alternative images to take their place though, which I’ll post as soon as I receive them.

Great post! Just wanted to let you know you have a new subscriber- me!
