If nothing else, you can’t fault Roxio on their press relations. Huge, high-res photos, separate product-specific website, wire-service press release and a promotional video (below) embeddable through no less than 24 different video services. They sure know how to launch a product. This time round, that product would be their new Easy VHS to DVD Kit which works much like Buffalo’s version we saw last week, only it includes software with an attractive, polished user interface for which Roxio is renowned.
The hardware consists of a simple USB thumbdrive-like device with S-Video and Composite Video leads that plug into the end and feed data directly from your VHS player.
The software includes a video editor with some more-than-basic features, allowing you to apply filters to help improve video quality, remove or rearrange video segments, plus, of course, the usual amateurish banners and effects.
The kit also includes a DVD authoring application with professionally designed templates to help put together your own personalized DVDs, complete with disk labels and case artwork.
The VHS to DVD kit is available now direct from Roxio for $60 and will launch in retail stores January worldwide.
