Anything that makes backing up your data simpler and easier is a winner in my opinion, as even the most competent of computer users succumb to laziness in regards to this task. This new innovation called the Clickfree Transformer Cable aims to do just this, providing completely automated backups of your data to an external USB hard drive, with its only requirement being that you plug it in.
Developed by Storage Appliance Corporation, the Clickfree Transformer Cable acts as the link between your external USB HDD and your PC and requires no software installations or configurations. It backs up and organizes all of your data automatically and Clickfree seem so confident of its effortlessness, that “there are no instructions to read.”
Having had a un-backed up hard drive fail on me over Christmas, I know, like many of you will too, the pain of losing huge amounts of data that you had fully intended to back-up. The trouble is, it’s never a pressing issue. With other tasks like work or even household chores you benefit immediately from your efforts, but making duplicates of your data never feels pressing, just a preparation for a future event that may never materialize – like constructing weapons that could break-up a giant asteroid that finds itself on a collision-course with Earth.
Clickfree should be congratulated for this user-friendly device. The only easier option I can think of would be Apple’s wireless Time Machine/Capsule, but with a list price of $500, it can’t compete with the Transformer Cable’s $60 tag. The device is supposedly available now direct from Clickfree’s store, though it doesn’t seem to have made an appearance just yet. It will also be made available through Amazon.com and other retailers at a later date.
