Here’s a gadget that screams both trouble for unfaithful partners and excitement for amateur spies the world over. Called the Driving Activity Reporter, it monitors and logs all movement of a vehicle through its 16-channel GPS receiver. It can be attached covertly to the fuel tank (or any metal part) with the built-in magnet and all data is recorded to flash memory for rapid analysis via USB.
The device is much like a black box recorder fitted to planes to log flight activity and can track places, routes and even speeds traveled by the car being monitored. Nefarious uses aside, it could also be useful to track your own driving to help you save fuel, or perhaps even as a means of showing that you only use your business car for business purposes. (In the latter you could easily manipulate the data though, by removing the device when you’re not legit – like when using the car for a road trip).
Upon retrieval, the device plugs straight into a USB port on your computer and via included software, reveals all on-screen through animated digital street maps. The DAR has a water resistant frame, runs on 2 AAA lithium batteries, gets three weeks of operation and holds up to 100 hours of driving activity. Or should we say spying activity?
The Driving Activity Reporter is available now for $229.95 from the gadget geniuses at Hammacher Schlemmer.
