Canon today announced the very first entry-level Digital SLR equipped with a 1080p HD video recording capability. Going by the name of the EOS Rebel T1i, the camera will get up to 15.1-megapixels of resolution and record 1080p at 20fps over Canon’s newer DIGIC 4 processor.
The Rebel T1i will sit in between the XSi and 40D in Canon’s Digital SLR lineup and will include a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD display, plus continuous shooting speeds of up to 3.4fps.
Speed settings range from ISO 100 to ISO 3200 in whole stop increments and Canon have included 2 high-speed options also, at ISO 6400 and ISO 12800. The camera utilizes a nine-point Autofocus (AF) system and includes Canon’s 3 Live View modes for stills – Quick, Live and Face Detection. The T1i also includes an HDMI output to display images and video directly on HDTVs.
Canon’s Rebel T1i will be available by early May and will be sold in body-only form with battery pack, charger, cables and strap for $799.99. A kit version including an f3.5-5.6 18-55mm IS lens is expected to be priced at $899.99.
