The Parrot AR Drone lets you fly a helicopter with your iPhone, view a live feed through two on-board cameras, and take on your friends in virtual duels.

If you’ve ever wanted to take a video game and turn it into real life, this might just be the closest you’ll ever come. The Parrot AR Drone is an Augmented Reality Quadricopter, complete with built-in cameras and four propeller blades.

The AR Drone is controlled by your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, which you simply tilt to control the drone’s movement. Most games on the App Store work by this principle, but this time you are controlling an actual aircraft in the real world!

There are two cameras on the flyer, which you can view on the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch – and you can even play augmented reality games (via AR.Drone App Games) superimposed over the footage coming from the cameras. This lets you take on your friends in a variety of real-world challenges, overlaid with your virtual volleys of machine-gun fire and destructo missile launches (without the expense of owning your own military arsenal!)

With a range of 50m, you’ll have plenty of room to get the most out of the drone – and since it generates its very own WiFi hotspot, you can be sure of fast and responsive communication with your iPhone (whilst being secured against interference from enemy operatives).

Including a removable bumper frame for “bouncing-off-the-walls-fun” at home or in the office, the Parrot AR Drone is available now at Firebox.com for $480 | £300 | €330.
