BMW has revealed its new GINA Light Visionary Model which has a frame made of carbon fibre wires covered in a textile fabric, enabling body parts like doors and hood to bend and contract much like real skin and skeleton.
GINA stands for Geometry and Functions in ‘N’ (infinite number) Adaptations and is a revolutionary project in car design. The model has been installed in the BMW Museum in Munich.
The futuristic design features headlights that look like eyeballs under eyelids and the hood opens from the centre, contracting back to expose the engine. The skeleton is controlled by electro-hydrolic devices.
Inside, the car only displays instruments that are currently in use. Unnecessary instrument panels are “blinked” out of view.
