Firefox 3 downloads have been screaming along as of Tuesday as fans attempt to break the Guinness World Download Record.
It only took 5 hours for Firefox 3 to reach the same number of downloads its predecessor achieved in its entire first day.
Firefox 3 was being downloaded 9,000 times a minute in the opening hours by fans all over the world.
The release Tuesday was delayed due to Mozilla’s servers becoming overloaded from visitors checking for the update. This was likely caused by confusion over the release time.
Mozilla announced the start time for the 24 hour record period in only one time zone, leaving people all over the world to attempt to convert it to their local time.
I would definitely recommend anyone using Firefox 2 to upgrade ASAP. I grabbed the update this morning and am blown away by the performance increases. I haven’t had a chance to tinker with the numerous new features or add-ons yet, but already I can say this is a killer browser!
Note: You may want to look into some skins. The UI isn’t terribly attractive.
