Chumby: The Cutest Touchscreen Internet Appliance Ever

Armed with just a computer and an Internet connection, we have access to a seemingly endless supply of information and services. This product, called the Chumby, aims to make it easier to keep up with news, sports results, stock quotes or social network activity away from the desktop through its cute, leather-covered, always-on touchscreen design.

Chumby is a wireless multimedia Internet appliance, that uses a WiFi signal to bring you the best the Internet has to offer and more – through over 1,000 different, freely available widgets and counting. Check the weather from the kitchen, play music or podcasts in the bathroom, keep an eye on a stock ticker in the lounge or read the latest RSS newsfeed headlines from your bedside – all without needing to boot your PC.

The Chumby could very well be the cutest device ever made that is both useful and that can be used by adults unashamedly. Its soft, bean-bag-like exterior measures 5 inches wide x 4 inches tall x 3 inches deep and comes equipped with a 3.5-inch touchscreen display on the front – as well as 2 USB ports, stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the rear. The Chumby does require a wireless router for just about all of its functionality though, so you’ll need to ensure you have one set up first.

Through its widgets, this clever little device allows you to connect to social networks such as Facebook and MySpace, follow RSS feeds or updates on Twitter, display or browse images on Flickr, Picasa and Photobucket plus enjoy YouTube videos, internet radio, games and more.

The Chumby comes in a range of different color combinations and is available either direct at, or through the Amazon Marketplace for a Chumbilishous price of $199.95.
